Surgery for Ingrown toenails and Warts

What to do when you see a warty lesions?

A wart lesion can often be misdiagnosed as a corn (calluses -hard, dead skin).

Warty lesion is a thickened callous like growth caused by the human papilloma virus. The infection occurs in the superficial layer of the skin. Sharp/tender pain can sometime be felt with a wart lesion. Plantar warts can be seen in all age groups but commonly affecting children and adolescents.

At Excel Podiatry clinic, we offer great range of treatment methods for the warty lesions; ranging from Acid application, liquid nitrogen applications, silver nitrate stick applications, needling techniques, laser therapy and Wart curettage surgery. So come down to check it out.

What to do when your big toenails always grow into your flesh?

Ingrown nails are painful and can lead to infection if not managed properly. Conservative care often includes simply cutting/trimming the offending spicule or portion of the nail. If required (ie recurrent or severe cases) only then; possible partial nail avulsion surgery with phenolisation can be discussed and performed on the day to remove the Ingrowing toenails permanently as a long term solution.

What a Podiatrist can do? Recommending good shoes too

I believe some of you have no idea how a podiatrist can help you. Often, people only thinks that podiatrists only deal with nails, in fact, they spent four years or more, to be a health professional, not only to cut the toenails.

Who is podiatrist?

A Podiatrist, also known as a Podiatric physician or “Foot & Ankle Doctor”, is a medical professional who is devoted to the study of and, the medical treatment and management of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower extremity.

Podiatrists will assess, advice, recommend management and treatment options for your lower extremities and feet & ankle problems. They also have an especially important role in maintaining the mobility of many elderly and disabled people, and people with special health care who need the ongoing monitoring of foot health, in particular those with circulation problems and diabetes. Having said that, you don’t have to wait until there is a problem with your feet to see a podiatrist (we do that all the time), if you need help with shoes recommendation, or a general foot check, all the podiatrists will be happy to assist you.

Foot conditions

Some common conditions that can be seen within a podiatric practice are:

  • General Foot and Ankle Pains
  • Sport injuries
  • Heel Pains/ Heel Spur
  • Ingrown Toe Nails and Warts
  • Fungal Nail and Skin Infections
  • Foot Lumps and Bumps: Bunions, Ganglionic Cysts
  • Corns & Calluses & Blisters
  • Flat Feet, High Arched Feet

It is common to see flat feet and high arched feet to have muscle pain and ache, especially children to teenagers. In addition, with the wrong footwear, corns and calluses will form across a period, and they will keep coming back as long as you are wearing the same pair of incorrect shoes. Here we are talking about the problems that last for months to years until they seek for help.

In this case, the solution is simple, visit a podiatrist that they will be able to solve the problems. Don’t be fool by the products in the market that the soft-gel insole or the acid that make your corns disappeared. You better off just to make an appointment with your podiatrist to save the hassle.

Services that podiatrists provide

  • Diabetic Foot Assessment
  • General foot care
  • Dry Needling
  • Laser therapy
  • Foot Mobilization Techniques (FMT)
  • Fungus Nails Treatment/Onychomycosis
  • Ingrown Toenails Treatment
  • Warts Treatment
  • Biomechanical examination and Gait analysis
  • Custom-made/ Over the counter Orthotic Therapy

Surprised by what a podiatrist can do? But I have to be clear that not every podiatrist knows everything, some are more specific in some area. If you have flat feet/high arch feet and are in pain, a podiatrist can help you by, firstly, examine your walking patterns, your leg length (to see if they are in the same length), and your shoes etc.

Depending on your condition, podiatrist might suggest a custom-made or over the counter orthotic, to help distribute your body weight that are applied on the foot.

How Orthotics can help me?

One of the most common case-Heel pain

Do you know that having flat feet or high arched feet are not a problem, but it can be the cause of the problem. For example, flat feet causes tiredness of the muscles pulling every time your feet hitting on the ground, the tired and prolong period of over contraction of the muscles causes the more pulling of the tendon at the heel. This condition is called heel pain, also known as Plantar Fasciitis.

I have seen people went for surgical option to cut the tendon so they can relief from the heel pain. There is actually has conservative treatment, just take time and effort to recover from it.

The first step is to seek a podiatrist for help.

Shoes recommendation

Looking at your feet, the shapes and the types of your feet are mostly genetic, and different from person to person. In other words, there are many types of feet in the world. Good news is, there are many types of shoes too.

Podiatrists have the ability to help you in choosing the right shoes that suits you. By checking your biomechanic and foot types, they can match you with a pair of good shoes, and most probably solve your pain and ache too.

Having said that, I have met some women who were in serious pain, refused to get the range of some shoes from the recommended shop, the reason was, the design was too ugly and old-fashioned. Well, there is a saying, beauty is the pain.

We can’t help if they don’t want to help themselves.

Thanks to the designer who came out with these orthotic friendly shoes!

The ultimate goal

I hope this article has help you to understand a little what a podiatrist can do. It is important to know who to seek for help depend on the conditions, or it will be wasting time and effort when you are desperate to get things right. Getting the right shoes is important, because at the end of the day, shoes should provide you with comfort, not causing pain.
